Das ZENTRUM FÜR KANADASTUDIEN macht auf eine Lehrveranstaltung im Sommersemester 2012 aufmerksam, die ganz im Namen des "Kanadischen Films" steht:

123001: Canadian Filmmakers - A Story of International Success /
Cinéastes canadiens - histoire d'un succès international

The Canadian film has its own peculiarities, its own success stories, its own famous filmmakers and actors. However, the Canadian film and its importance are often outmatched by the big film industry of its neighbour, the United States. Especially on an international level, the Canadian film is not always perceived in its own value, but as a by-product of the dominant US-film industry.

But even though the Hollywood cinema productions dominate North American film industry, they are often influenced by Canadian film-makers, actors, etc. while a great number of US-American films are even shot in Canada.

 The course has the objective to situate the Canadian cinema within a North American context reflecting on great filmmakers and their specific contributions to world cinema.

The lecture series ¿The Canadian Film - History, Filmmakers, Perspectives¿ is part of the Canadian Film Focus 2011/2012, which started with a series of film screenings in cooperation with the LEOKINO in winter 2011/2012. It includes two lecture blocks, several film screenings and the international symposium entitled "The Art of Cinema - Canada versus the United States" which takes place on March 29 / 30.

Block 1 (Deutsch) - 16.3.2012:
Course instructor: Claudia Kotte (Humboldt Universität Berlin)

* Kanadisches Kino von den Anfängen bis 1939 - Dokumentarfilm und Animationsfilm seit 1939.
* Das Kino in Québec
 * Das anglokanadische Kino von 1960 bis heute

Block 2 (Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch) - 29./30.3.2012
International Symposium: "The Art of Cinema - Canada versus the United States"

Block 3 (Englisch) - 11.5.2012:
Course instructor: André Loiselle (Carleton University, Ottawa)

* David CRONENBERG - Canadian Film Director, Producer and Screenwriter
* Atom EGOYAN - Armenian-Canadian Film and Stage Director, Screenwriter, Producer & Actor. 
* Denys ARCAND - French-Canadian Film Director, Screenwriter and Producer

The three blocks will end with a Canadian film screening in cooperation with the IFFI in early June and the written test on June 15.

Das ZENTRUM FÜR KANADASTUDIEN freut sich auf zahlreiche KursteilnehmerInnen und großes Interesse am INTERNATIONALEN SYMPOSIUM "The Art of Cinema - Canada versus the United States" (29./30. März 2012).
