Application for KIAS Conference "Tomorrow's Ideas, Now" (University of Alberta).

KIAS, Arts-led research institute on the University of Alberta campus lädt ein zur KIAS Conference "Tomorrow´s Ideas, Now":

KIAS works on interdisciplinary research in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Fine Arts with faculty, graduate and undergraduate student, international partners, and more. 

This August, KIAS is hosting the second annual international undergraduate research conference for students working in the disciplines named above and within one or more of our three research themes:

- Stewardship of the Planet
- Place, Belonging, Otherness
- Culture, Media, Technology

We want to engage students on many different levels and undergraduate research is something that is often overlooked.
The conference "Tomorrow's Ideas, Now" will run August 16 to 18, 2012 on the University of Alberta Campus. 
Applicants are invited to submit a variety of presentation types, from scholarly papers and posters, musical composition, literary expression, dance, multimedia, and artistic expressions.

Our abstract deadline is March 19, 2012 and applicants are invited to send me any questions they might have about the abstract process. This will be a major opportunity for students looking to expand their CV, improve their presentation skills, get research experience, or simply to showcase their work to their peers.

In an effort to reach all students who are interested in the conference, KIAS is organizing three online information sessions that will be accessible to students and administrators around the world. In addition, there will be a number of information sessions on the University of Alberta campus.

The KIAS LiveBlogs will be one-hour live chats, with KIAS Director, Jerry Varsava, and KIAS Executive Manager, Gillian Edwards, who will answer as many questions as possible during the three sessions.

Students will be able to get real-time information that may not be available on the website, or then leave their questions for later email response on application-specific matters.

The LiveBlogs are timed to provide accessible times for our partners around the world, but students are welcome to log on to any of the three, irrespective of their locality, as often as they wish. For students who can't make any of the times, the LiveBlogs will be left on our website, so they can scroll through the responses to see if their questions have already been answered.

Students can log onto the above link and enter their email address for each LiveBlog, in order to receive a reminder email about the event close to the date/time. For specific times in their own localities, students can consult the World Time Zone Converter as www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html. We ask that administrators distribute this email to students, in order to ensure that we reach as many interested parties as possible.
